Cathy Kelly

Chair of the National Executive Committee  of Advance

I have had the pleasure of working with Jim Leonard as our Union Representative for Advance for over 20 years now, and I cannot speak highly enough of his dedication and commitment to our union and its members.

As a fellow union member, Jim truly understands the challenges and concerns that we face daily. He has worked tirelessly to represent our interests and ensure that our voices are heard. His experience working in our branches and his role as part of the National Executive Committee (NEC) have given him a deep understanding of the issues facing our union and the wider labour movement.

In addition to his role on the NEC, Jim also served as the Chair of the NEC, demonstrating his strong leadership skills and ability to bring people together. He also is a valuable member of our senior team, working closely with key stakeholders to advocate for our rights and interests.

One of the things that sets Jim apart as a Union Representative is his dedication to building trust and fostering a positive relationship between the union and the Bank. He played a crucial role in negotiating our Pay Deal over the years, which has led to improved benefits for all members.

But what truly stands out about Jim is his genuine care and concern for each and every member. He always thinks of us and our needs and goes above and beyond to provide personal support whenever we need it. He is always available to listen and offer guidance and has been a source of strength and support for many of us during difficult times.

Jim's commitment to Advance Union is evident in his attendance at key meetings with the EXCO and Industrial Relations. He ensures that our voices are represented, and our interests are protected in these important discussions.

In summary, I cannot recommend Jim Leonard enough as a Senior Union Representative at Advance. He is a true advocate for our union and its members, and his dedication, hard work, and genuine care for our well-being make him an invaluable asset to our organization.

Thank you, Jim, for all that you do for us.

Sinead Purse

I have been actively involved with Advance Union, serving in various capacities for the last 22 years, including area representative, NEC representative, and currently as the elected Vice Chair of the NEC in Homes Belfast

Over the years, I can honestly state that my roles in Advance have enriched me with immense knowledge, guidance, and support, largely thanks to Jim Leonard.

Being part of Advance means having the confidence to speak up and advocate for members who sometimes need that additional voice in the workplace. I have learned a great deal from Jim; he always provides sound advice and was a staunch supporter during my early days on the NEC.

His accessibility and deep understanding of his members, the policies, and the bank's various areas are unparalleled. Jim's extensive experience and readiness to propel Advance forward are evident.

He has forged key senior management relationships crucial for our dialogue in improving the workplace for our members, as demonstrated in the pay review.

Jim is a steadfast presence, fully capable of steering Advance in a new and vibrant direction amidst the ever-evolving banking environment. In my view, Jim is the only candidate with the strength, experience, and suitability for the role of our General Secretary.

I strongly commend him to our membership as a very safe pair of hands for the future of Advance.

I have known and worked alongside Jim Leonard for the past 22 years.

Jim has been an advocate for Advance Union since the day he joined the bank.

Jim has substantial experience within Advance at every level of consultation and negotiation with the bank.

He attends all JSM Meetings and supports members of Advance at the announcements and follows this up with individual support for our members who are impacted by this process.

He regularly supports members on an individual basis if they need to attend any formal hearing that may impact their employment with the bank with many successful outcomes for our members.

Jim has gained lots of experience over the many years he has been a Senior Member of the Advance Team, while supporting myself and the General Secretary with all the above during his time in Advance.

I am firm believer in allowing our members to elect their new General Secretary and to this end I will have no hesitation giving Jim my vote and will also support him in getting his message out there for all of our members to support him in this upcoming election so that he does become our next General Secretary..

It is extremely important that our members use their vote to elect the next General Secretary of Advance.
